Building Beautiful Homes

Importance of good thatch ventilation

Team TW are taking on a re-furbish and re-ridge job this week.

The team are out on the edge of the New Forest this week working hard to breathe new life into an existing thatch.  The boys will give the thatch a good clean, re-fixing and re-dressing any damaged patches wherever necessary.   The eaves and gables will be re-dressed and new ridge rolls will be fixed to the apex ready for the new ridge to be carefully laid.

Undertaking refurbishment work like this can increase the natural ventilation of the outer surface of the the thatch which in turn will substantially increase the potential longevity of the existing roof.  The new ridge, built using top quality combed wheat reed will finish off the job beautifully and see the roof looking smart and ready to face the New Forest elements once more.
