Cottage re-thatch

Team TW back in the New Forest.

Team TW have just started a big 2 week job to entirely rethatch, in water reed, a delightful cottage on the edge of the New Forest.  The project has just begun its first stage,  the scaffolding is now up and the stripping has started and once the old thatch has been removed from the site, the team will crack on with the ridge runs making sure they are tightly sparred followed then by the job of fixing the ridge rolls to the apex ready for the new ridge.

Team TW

Complete wheat reed re-thatch

The thatch of the whole cottage will be top quality combed wheat reed, tightly packed and all fixings will be buried to a depth of at least 7″ – 8″.  The coat work and eave runs will be dressed and cut to give a superb finish and a proper and serviceable flush ridge of at least 5″ in thickness will be built up using top quality combed wheat reed.  To finish the job off, the whole cottage will be covered in wire netting, held down with suitable fixings.

Team TW love to take on these beautiful jobs and the new thatch will look perfect in its New Forest setting.
