Thatching in heatwave
Bit of improvisation needed up on the roof at the moment.
Team TW is melting out in the summer sun at the moment. Being outside on the roof all day, everyday, in the wall to wall sunshine of this heatwave is no mean feat and the lads are having to improvise a little in an attempt to keep cool. Now all the stripping is complete, the ridge runs sparred and the ridge rolls fixed to the apex, the team are getting creative with ways to keep cool. Yesterday’s plan was to thatch under an umbrella. This doesn’t mean however that the Team were exercising the little known skill of one handed thatching, that may be a bit of stretch, they did at least manage to fix the brolly to the scaffold.
The Team are now starting on the re-thatch, using best quality combed wheat reed fixed and will start fixing the new reeds in place with the traditional spars and ledgers. The whole project is now over half way thought and is shaping up to look really cottagey and gorgeous when it is finished.
